The Van Dike Club in Plymouth is a legend in rock history. In a modest side street off a main road leading to the Dockyard, the Van Dike Club saw all of the most famous names in rock, often before they were famous, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Yes, The Nice, Genesis, Roxy Music and many many more all played here.
Now it is demolished and replaced with flats, but it’s memory lives on in these handouts that were given out at the door. Each one was the gig listing for what was on in the weeks ahead. Looking at them now it really is a “who’s who of the famous.”
These would adorn bedrooms, school books, album sleeves and many people doodled on them as can be seen here……INCLUDING ME!
They are a unique part of history, of rock history and Plymouth history.
THANKS TO COLIN MORRIS & STUART STROUD FOR THESE GEMS
DO YOU HAVE ANY TO ADD TO THESE, OR ANY VAN DIKE GUILDHALL GIG PHOTOS/POSTERS
